Remains can be seen of ancient town walls built from
blocks of laterite on earthen ramparts to enclose certain areas southeast of Si Satchanalai town.
The northern side of the areas, however, has the Yom river as a natural boundary. The dating of
the wall is still uncertain. Some scholars have suggested that the walls belonged to the pre-Si Satchanalai town,
called Chalieng in certain historic chronicles. It has been, therefore, called the
town wall of Chalieng. It is quite possible that the walls were initially built as
earthen ramparts, and the laterite blocks were added on top of the ramparts in a later period.
